The territory
From the heart of Parabita, an extraordinary territory opens in every direction. Sea, villages, architecture, light.

Getting oriented
Palazzetto Vico San Marco is located in Parabita, in the heart of the Salento peninsula. From here, the territory naturally organises itself into three distances.
Very close
15 — 30 min
The sea, the Baroque, the golden beaches. What you'll experience every day.
Perfect for a day trip
40 — 60 min
The Adriatic coast, the extreme tip of Salento. Unforgettable excursions.
Iconic and reachable
1 h 30 — 2 h 30
The great Puglia landmarks. They deserve a dedicated day or a stop on your journey.

The sea
The Ionian Sea is a quarter of an hour away by car. Golden sand beaches, turquoise waters, well-kept beach clubs, and stretches of free coastline where no one goes. To the south the cliff becomes wild, coastal towers dot the shoreline, and sunset becomes a daily ritual.
From Parabita you can easily reach the most beautiful beaches of the Ionian coast — and continuing south, the extreme tip of Salento where the Ionian meets the Adriatic. No planning needed: just choose a direction.

The villages
Lecce stone is the material of everything: churches, palazzi, alleys, arches. It glows at sunset with a golden light that exists nowhere else. Salento's historic centres are to be crossed on foot, slowly, discovering hidden courtyards and Baroque facades.
From Parabita you are thirty minutes from the Baroque of Lecce — the Roman amphitheatre, the basilicas, the papier-mâché workshops. Forty minutes from Otranto, the easternmost point of Italy, with its cathedral and the crystal-clear sea that begins just outside the walls.

At the table
Salento has a solid gastronomic tradition, made of excellent raw ingredients and hands that know the craft. Orecchiette, fresh fish, wild greens, extra-virgin olive oil that tastes of the earth.
Chiara has personally selected the restaurants we recommend to our guests: not the best known, but those where you truly eat well. Ask her for a suggestion.

The evening
When the sun goes down, Salento changes pace. You dine outdoors under centuries-old olive trees, with local wine and the warm glow of lanterns. The restaurants we'll recommend are not the ones in the guides — they're where the locals go, where the fish arrives in the morning and the bread is still made by hand.

Living traditions
In summer the villages light up. The luminarie — galleries of light that cross the streets — are a unique tradition of southern Italy. Each town celebrates its patron saint with ephemeral architectures of thousands of lights.
From Parabita you can easily reach the most evocative festivals in the province. An experience you won't find in any tourist guide.

The great Puglia landmarks
They're not around the corner, but they're worth the journey. Alberobello and Matera are reachable in a day from the Palazzetto — or can become a dedicated stop on your Puglia itinerary.

UNESCO World Heritage Site. The trulli — dry-stone buildings with conical roofs — form a landscape unique in the world. Reachable in a day, ideal as a dedicated stop on your journey.
Directions
The Sassi di Matera, European Capital of Culture 2019. An experience that deserves a full day or an overnight stay. Further from Salento, but iconic and unforgettable.
DirectionsGetting here
Salento is best explored by car. We recommend renting one upon arrival at the airport: the freedom of movement transforms the stay.
The most convenient airport for reaching Salento. Connected to major Italian cities and some European destinations. Car hire recommended.
Driving directionsPuglia's international hub with more flights and destinations. Further away but with more connection options. Ideal if combined with a stop at Alberobello or Matera.
